Occupational therapists can assist people in improving upper limb function post:

  • fractures of the hand or arm

  • lacerations and amputation

  • burns

  • surgical repairs of tendons and nerves

  • tendonitis

  • rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis

  • carpal tunnel syndrome

Guide Healthcare’s home care occupational therapists typically approach hand therapy by addressing the biomechanical issues underlying upper-extremity conditions. Our clinician’s use an occupation-based and client-centred approach that identifies the participation needs and desires of the client and emphasizes the performance of desired activities as the primary goal of therapy.

When indicated, Guide’s occupational therapists will provide splints and adaptive equipment to facilitate rather than inhibit early participation in daily activities such as dressing or driving.

The ultimate goal of occupation-based hand therapy is to ensure that the rehabilitation process promotes healing while also enabling older adults to perform meaningful activities. This approach fosters stronger participation rates and better outcomes in quality of life for our clients.
